About Chow Hai
Chow Hai (醜閪) is a colloquial phrase — usually thrown around to describe someone foolish, naïve, or lacking intelligence.
I chose it on purpose.
Because most of us aren’t stupid — we’re just running on default.
Moving through life on autopilot.
Reacting instead of choosing.
Consuming instead of experiencing.
Why This Site Exists
Chow Hai started as a personal experiment in living better.
On paper, life was fine. But I noticed how much of modern life runs on unexamined defaults — how we eat, work, spend, scroll, and define success — often without asking whether it actually makes us healthier, calmer, freer… or more alive.
This site exists to slow that process down.
Not through outrage or ideology — but through curiosity, self-reflection, and lived experience.
Because life isn’t something to optimise endlessly.
It’s something to taste.
Why the Name Chow Hai
A Chow Hai is the self-aware fool.
Someone who:
-
Knows they don’t have all the answers
-
Is willing to unlearn bad assumptions
-
Experiments instead of blindly copying
-
Improves quietly, without preaching
Growth doesn’t start with confidence — it starts with humility.
And awareness is the first step to living deliberately instead of automatically.
What I Write About
I explore:
-
Life experiments — habits, routines, money decisions, health changes I test in my own life
-
Personal growth — thinking clearer, living calmer, choosing more intentionally
-
Personal finance & financial independence — mistakes, lessons, realistic paths to freedom
-
Food, health & longevity — eating and moving for energy, not aesthetics
-
Technology, AI & internet culture — tools that help versus systems that quietly drain attention
-
Opinionated explainers — breaking down ideas, policies, and social traps in plain language
No gurus. No hacks. No one-size-fits-all answers.
Just honest thinking, slow improvement, and learning in public.
And an ongoing attempt to experience life fully — not just efficiently.
Who This Is (and Isn’t) For
This site is for you if:
-
You feel something about modern life is off
-
You want to live longer, healthier, and freer — without becoming extreme
-
You value clarity over noise
-
You’re willing to question what “normal” means
-
You’d rather taste life deliberately than rush through it distracted
It’s probably not for you if you’re looking for quick wins, life hacks, or magic formulas.
But if you’re willing to be a Chow Hai — curious, reflective, and open to change — you’re welcome here.
A Final Note
Everything here is written for two people:
You.
And the version of me who needed to wake up a little earlier.
If something here helps you move through life more deliberately —
more aware of what you’re choosing,
more present in what you’re experiencing —
then this experiment is working.
Welcome to Chow Hai.
Taste life properly.
